SCHOLARSHIP
To be eligible for a Stella H. Oaks scholarship, you must meet the criteria listed below:
1. You meet the following definition of "single mother" (all 3 categories):
Marital Status: You are a single mother, (widowed, divorced, legally separated*) or you are married but living apart and your divorce will be final by the time the scholarship is awarded.*
Parenting Status: You are the custodial parent or guardian with physical custody (50% or more) of at least one dependent child. A dependent child is 18 or younger or older than 18 and still in high school.*
Living Status: You are the only adult in the house with child(ren), or you live with parents or relative(s).*
*You will be asked to explain your circumstances and may be asked for additional documentation.
2. You have earned a high school diploma or GED.
3. You have not previously earned a bachelor’s degree.
4. You are attending or plan to attend a non-profit school or approved training program.
5. You have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
6. You have the financial inability to pay for your own schooling.
7. You have completed or are in the process of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
8. You are currently enrolled or plan to be enrolled in an educational program that will increase your earning power.
9. You are pursuing a degree or certification that leads to employment at family-supporting wages.
10. You are a legal resident of the United States or a resident with DACA status.
-Degree programs are not required; Technical schools and certificates are highly encouraged.
-Scholarships generally will not be granted to pursue graduate degrees.
-Meeting the eligibility criteria allows an applicant to move on to the next round of consideration in our application review process.
-First priority for scholarships will be given to those applicants enrolled in programs that have the greatest potential to increase their income in the shortest period of time.
-Scholarships are awarded on a per term/semester/quarter basis
